Project Overview
Set on a former stonemason’s yard at Macquarie Park Cemetery near Lane Cove National Park, the Lotus Pavilion is a quiet retreat where religious and cultural groups can gather and honour their loved ones.
Its nine-square plan allows flexible orientation to suit different faiths, with a simple low-pitched roof supported by columns. Designed to connect with nature, the natural finishes enhance a peaceful space for comfort and reflection.
The idea of connectivity to the environment was central to the design. The finishes and textures have been selected to be evocative of those found in nature. The design was developed as a place that captures positive memories and comfort for the community: a peaceful place to mourn the loss of a loved one.
